Two years ago, we were presenting the idea of a data center built in old factory halls, without active cooling.
Two years ago, we estimated the cost of building, operating and marketing such a data center to be around 3 million CHF.
Us being us at ungleich, we employ agile strategies in our business - or in other words: we just started to build it, with a much smaller budget, step-by-step.

First, we created a prototype, checked out whether we can actually find a decent internet connection. Turns out, the local electricity company does actually have a lot of fiber, so we were lucky.
One data center is no data center, so at the beginning of 2018, after the last successful crowdfunding campaign, we started building the second data center in Linthal. Linthal is the home of Spinnerei Linthal AG, a company that used to run the spinning and weaving business in its precious factory halls.
Now it is the end of 2018 and we are used to running 2 data centers. However, there is still much to do: maturing our support process, growing our marketing and also to engineer new products.
That is why we started our second financing round by crowdfunding.
